Oh Yemen!

Oh Yemen

I was 7 when they seized my home
8 when I went hungry
At 9 I was trekking for food
By 10 I was alone and empty

My childhood snatched from under my feet
The cruelty unknown to me
The books of fantasy and joy
Had not prepared me for this life of agony

I watch in awe through the window
Praying they don’t return home
For this is my only source of survival
My only chance of hope

I anticipated the pain
I had foreseen the massacre
I was prepared for the torment
But no one told me about the loneliness, the hunger

My home dispersed around the city
My family anonymous to me, my country foreign for me

How much longer can I keep this discretion
The only place I’ve known as home
Now not worth this anguish and affliction

Around me It falls
To mere dust on this earth
Oh Yemen. Hear my cry
While you fall before my eyes

My pride, my country, my home, my family
Ya watany, hear my cry
You fell before my eyes.Edit this block to edit the article content or add new blocks...
